Musk Predicts a Robot-Filled Future

Elon Musk believes that the future is populated by robots – lots of them. In fact, he predicts there will be 20 billion humanoid robots “soon.” This would mean more than two robots for every person on Earth.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla, discussed his “Tesla Master Plan 4” at a recent shareholder meeting, where he focused heavily on robots. A key part of his plan is the Tesla Optimus, a humanoid robot first revealed in 2021. The latest version of Optimus, called Gen 2, can perform a variety of “useful” tasks. Musk thinks that Optimus will help Tesla become a $25 trillion company.

Tesla aims to produce a billion robots a year, hoping to gain a 10% share of the robot market. Musk pointed out that other companies, including Nvidia, are developing humanoid robots, too. According to Musk, “If Tesla has a 10 percent share of that [one billion robots a year], it might be a lot more than 10 percent, we could make about 100 million Optimus units a year.” Musk acknowledges that this is just a prediction; only time will tell if these robots will succeed.
