Rahul Gandhi Returns to Parliament After Supreme Court Suspension

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of India's main opposition party, the Congress, has returned to parliament after the Supreme Court suspended his conviction for defamation.

Gandhi was convicted in March 2023 of making disparaging remarks about the prime minister, Narendra Modi, and his family. He was sentenced to two years in prison, but was granted bail pending appeal.

The Supreme Court suspended Gandhi's conviction on August 4, 2023, allowing him to return to parliament and contest the next general election, which is due in 2024.

Gandhi's return to parliament is a boost for the Congress party, which has been struggling in recent years. The party is hoping that Gandhi's leadership will help it to regain power in the next election.
