Studios, Actors Alliance Optimistic as Strike Deal Comes Into Focus

After a weekend of intense negotiations, SAG-AFTRA and the studios are taking a one-day break on Monday before resuming talks to end the actors' strike.

In an update to members, SAG-AFTRA said significant progress was made over the weekend discussing proposals like compensation for streaming and use of AI. Both sides will work independently Monday and reconnect in the evening on scheduling further discussions.

There is growing optimism a deal could come within days to conclude the 108-day strike. Sources say the parties have gained "significant" traction on finding common ground regarding additional pay for actors out of streaming revenue.

Key issues still being hashed out are compensation formulas for streaming shows and protecting performers' rights regarding studios' use of artificial intelligence.

The studios were initially underwhelmed by SAG-AFTRA's streaming proposal on Friday but have become more encouraged as potential compromises emerge. Though some details remain, both sides believe they are in the final stretch toward an agreement.

The strike has forced studios to delay major film releases planned for 2024, resulting in huge economic losses. An end to the walkout would allow studios to restart stalled TV and movie productions. But after months of pickets, the mood is cautiously hopeful a deal may soon be reached.
