The Curious Case of Chelsea's Left-Footed Prodigy

Michael Olise spurned Chelsea to play for Bayern Munich. However, Chelsea may not need to sign another player because Omari Hutchinson, who spent time in Chelsea’s academy, could fill the void. Hutchinson spent last season on loan to Ipswich Town, where the 20-year-old predominantly played right wing. During Ipswich’s promotion-winning campaign, Hutchinson scored 11 goals and had six assists in 50 appearances.

Understandably, Ipswich wants Hutchinson back. Sources told football.london that Ipswich was preparing a £20m bid for Hutchinson. Ajax, Borussia Monchengladbach, Feyenoord, and Stuttgart have also expressed interest. In fact, Hutchinson attended Monchengladbach’s last game of the season as a guest of the club, which finished second in the Bundesliga.

Chelsea seems confident that Hutchinson can fill Olise’s shoes. Hutchinson had two brief appearances for Chelsea against Manchester City in the Premier League and FA Cup. Eighteen months later, new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca might be ready to give Hutchinson a shot. Maresca’s Leicester City squad faced Hutchinson’s Ipswich Town twice last season, drawing both matches 1-1.
