UK Home Secretary Fired for Criticizing Police Handling of Pro-Palestinian Protests

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak fired Home Secretary Suella Braverman on Monday after she accused police of being too lenient with pro-Palestinian protesters.

Braverman had criticized the London police for not cracking down on recent "pro-Palestinian mobs" demonstrating against Israel's military campaign in Gaza. She called the protesters "hate marchers" in the Times of London.

The comments were seen as highly unusual criticism of police by a senior government official. Critics said Braverman was inflaming tensions during the protests against Israel's war with Hamas.

In a Cabinet reshuffle, Sunak appointed former Prime Minister David Cameron as the new Foreign Secretary. Cameron takes over from James Cleverly, who lasted just over a week in the role.

Braverman, known for her controversial far-right views, said it was "the greatest privilege" to serve as Home Secretary. Her firing comes amid questions over Sunak's judgment in appointing her.

The move follows growing pressure on Sunak to dismiss Braverman over her divisive rhetoric during a contentious period. Her polarizing stance as Home Secretary had drawn wide scrutiny.
